According to China Huaneng, the world's largest stand-alone power electrochemical energy storage system led by China Huaneng Clean Energy Research Institute - Huaneng Shangdu 35 kV high-voltage direct-mounted ESS has achieved grid-connected operation at full power. It remarks that the first phase of Huaneng Shangdu Gigawatt-level Wind Power Base Supporting Energy Storage Project is fully completed. Huaneng Shangdu Gigawatt-level Wind Power Base Supporting Energy Storage Project is one of the first large-scale new energy base projects in China, which is a base-type large-scale of wind power, photovoltaic and fossil-fuel fired power plant integrated energy project, including 2 GW of wind power and 300 MW of energy storage power plant. The energy storage power station project is planned to be constructed in three phases, each phase 100 MW/200 MWh. The first phase uses principally 3 technology routes: distributed PCS (Power Conversion System) ESS, centralized PCS ESS and 35 kV direct-mounted ESS.
The application of 35 kV high-voltage direct-mounted ESS is equipped with a battery capacity of 40 MWh, whose output is 25 MW. It takes 35 kV direct grid-connected mode, and guarantees round-trip efficiency, fast response time, advantages of stand-alone ESS grid regulation and control, etc. It can effectively improve the grid quality and security level of the wind-thermal-storage combined transmission system.
