Marbella, Spain, October 9, 2026 — At a gathering of European partners and customers on October 8 in Marbella, Spain, the integrated energy storage solutions provider HiTHIUM presented a new “Li-Na Synergy” strategy, together with an inside look at its Spanish Gigafactory’s progress and coming production lines. In launching its dual chemistry plan, HiTHIUM committed to continue advancing lithium-ion (Li) solutions while also driving the development of sodium-ion (Na) energy storage as a complementary technology. The company shared its Na-ion research investments and first commercially available product, as well as its long-term “Li-Na” roadmap, detailing the two technologies’ differing use cases in Europe.

Scaling with flexibility: Matching BESS chemistry, duration, and design for each project
In delineating the sheer variety of energy market mechanisms across the continent, senior HiTHIUM management explained the focus on solution flexibility to meet the real-life range of project requirements in Europe. The company pointed to its long duration BESS applications as a key building block of flexibility, addressing needs in markets as diverse as the UK and Italy. The current pressing example of AI data centers also illustrates the wide range of energy supply challenges and their specific energy storage solutions.
“Working closely with partners across Europe has strengthened our ability to match the right technology, duration and system design to each project’s needs. Our Li-Na Synergy strategy, alongside our long-term investment in sodium-ion technology and 6.9MWh LDES solution, enables us to deliver flexible, customer-focused solutions that create long-term value,” said Winters Hu, COO and President of HiTHIUM Europe.

AI data centers (AIDC) drive growth, while EU regulation demands long-term planning
To enable data center projects to accelerate the permitting phase, and secure their long-term market share and revenue, the manufacturer launched its AIDC Grid Shield program, introducing it to European partners gathered in Marbella. The Grid Shield has undergone extensive testing, for instance at a facility with a modular simulation platform that HiTHIUM created to analyse data center load behavior. In emulating a number of different scenarios, grid impact is tracked and analysed to understand how the energy storage solution can best mitigate issues. The company detailed eight of the most common BESS applications it provides for AIDC, including grid support, speed of service solutions, ancillary services, and power quality.
As the AIDC market prepares for rapid growth, European energy developers and investors in every segment must manage EU battery supply chain regulation. HiTHIUM touted its advantage in early compliance on the Digital Battery Passport, disclosing its TÜV Rheinland conformity certification, extensive traceability systems in place, QR-code infrastructure (already deployed ahead of the 2027 mandate), and successful participation in the 2024 GBA Battery Passport Operational Trial. In consideration of the European Commission’s newly proposed “Buy European” procurement law, the company pointed to its Gigafactory under construction in Navarre, Spain. Senior management shared updates on its 405 million EUR capital investment and the timeline to production ramp-up toward the end of 2027.
Building trust and local capabilities: HiTHIUM strengthens its long-term commitment to Europe
“Many of you supported HiTHIUM when we were still relatively new in Europe, and your trust and commercial collaboration have helped us become a better European partner. For us, the most important measure of our journey is not simply how many countries we have entered or how many megawatt-hours we have delivered, but the trust we have built with our customers and partners over the long term,” said Kelson Li, Vice President of HiTHIUM Europe.

Building on this foundation of trust, HiTHIUM is strengthening its local capabilities across Europe as part of its long-term “Made in Europe” commitment. Speaking at the Marbella gathering, HiTHIUM Chairman Jeff Wu said: “Our commitment to Europe is local for local: we are building the capabilities and operational foundation needed to serve European downstream customers from within the region. Spain is an important part of this approach, and our local presence is a key step in delivering on our long-term commitment to Europe.”
